The Zuckerman STEM Scholars Program is proud to stand at the forefront of transforming Israel’s research landscape by advancing women in STEM fields. More than just a saying, closing the gender gap in academia remains a fundamental part of our mission – and is an achievement we celebrate with pride.
Currently, 44% of all Zuckerman Scholars are women, a testament to our unwavering dedication to identifying and nurturing exceptional female talent across Israel’s research ecosystem.
Since our program began in 2016, we have achieved another milestone: 26 outstanding female scientists have established their own laboratories as Principal Investigators, thanks to support from the Zuckerman Faculty Scholars Program and the Council for Higher Education. These women now lead cutting-edge research initiatives, mentor the next generation of scientists, and serve as powerful role models throughout Israel’s academic community.
Today, in partnership with all eight research universities across Israel, the Zuckerman Program continues to identify and recruit exceptional women to faculty positions, create more opportunities, and pioneer meaningful change on a national level.
From A to Zuckerman – reshaping Israeli science.
“I am immensely grateful to the Zuckerman STEM program for providing me the opportunity to pursue my postdoctoral research in the United States. My postdoc was a transformative experience, impacting me not only on a scientific level but also on a personal one. Throughout this journey, I had the privilege of working alongside inspiring advisors, engaging with exceptionally talented and creative colleagues from diverse backgrounds at both the Broad Institute and Yale University, and fostering collaborative relationships with leading researchers in my field.”
Miriam Adler, alumna
“The Zuckerman program allowed me to work on projects at the forefront of understanding stony coral biomineralization with top researchers. I had an amazing time in Israel and look forward to continuing collaborations that were established during my time as a Zuckerman postdoctoral fellow.”
Jeana Drake, alumna
“I am very grateful to the Zuckerman STEM program for providing this opportunity to do postdoctoral research in Israel. It was a memorable time in my life: I had a lot of fun working with my postdoctoral advisor and colleagues and enjoyed living in such a culturally rich country.”

Helping women scientists make an impact by establishing of their own lab
One of the toughest challenges for young female scholars is the leap from researcher to Principal Investigator (PI), a long, complex process that requires a helping hand. The Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program provides much needed support to help the young PI establish a lab, as well as significant resources that provide an opportunity to learn from the Zuckerman community through mentorship and exchange. These are key tools that ensure the success of the lab – from the planning stage to staff recruitment and operational logistics. The Zuckerman Faculty Scholars Program is unique in its accompaniment of young researchers, giving promising young women researchers the opportunity to take their research to the highest level of scientific achievement.
